frequently asked questions

Do I pay more if I use a travel agent?

Nope. For most trips, especially cruises, resorts, and packaged vacations, you pay the same price whether you book online or use a travel advisor. The travel company pays the commission, not you.

If you book directly without an agent, the travel company simply keeps that commission.

Do you charge any fees?

Most commissionable bookings (cruises, all-inclusive resorts, packaged vacations) have no planning or booking fee.

A planning or research fee may apply for:

  • Custom or complex itineraries
  • Non-commissionable travel
  • Air-only or hotel-only bookings
  • Extensive research or multiple itinerary revisions

Any fee is disclosed in advance and never charged without your approval.

Why should I use a travel agent instead of self-booking online?

When you book with Voyages, you get:

  • An advocate before, during, and after your trip
  • Monitoring for price drops and promotions (when applicable)
  • Help with changes, cancellations, and disruptions
  • Insider knowledge, perks, and planning support
  • One point of contact instead of a call center

If something goes wrong, you don’t have to figure it out alone

What types of travel do you specialize in?

We specialize in:

  • Ocean & river cruises
  • All-inclusive vacations
  • Family travel
  • Couples & anniversary trips
  • Group travel

If it’s a good fit for my services, I’ll help. If it’s not, I’ll tell you honestly.

Are you licensed or registered in South Carolina?

Yes. Voyages by J. Brian Harris LLC is a South Carolina-based travel agency and operates in compliance with all applicable state and federal requirements.

Travel services are provided through accredited travel suppliers and host partnerships.

Do I pay Voyages directly for my trip?

In most cases, no. Payments are made directly to the cruise line, resort, airline, or tour operator.

If a planning or service fee applies, that fee is paid directly to the agency and is separate from supplier payments.

Can Voyages help me if I already booked something?

Sometimes — it depends on the supplier and timing.

  • Some bookings can be transferred to an agent shortly after booking
  • Others cannot

Even if I can’t take over the booking, I’m happy to offer guidance when possible.

What happens if my trip is delayed, canceled, or interrupted?

I assist you in working with the travel supplier to resolve issues such as:

  • Schedule changes
  • Cancellations
  • Rebookings
  • Lost reservations

Final decisions and refunds are always controlled by the travel supplier’s policies.

Does Voyages recommend travel insurance?

Yes — strongly.

Travel insurance helps protect your investment against:

  • Trip cancellations or interruptions
  • Medical emergencies
  • Travel delays
  • Lost luggage

I can help you understand coverage options, but the final decision is always yours.

Can you match online prices or deals?

Often, yes.

Many “online deals” are identical to what agents see — and sometimes agents have access to:

  • Group pricing
  • Onboard credits
  • Added amenities

If you find a price, send it over and I’ll gladly review it.

What information do I need to provide to get started?

Typically:

  • Travel dates & flexibility
  • Ideal type of trip or vacation
  • Destination ideas
  • Number of travelers and ages
  • Budget range
  • Special requests or needs

The more details you provide, the better the options I can offer.

How far in advance should I book?

How far in advance should I book?

  • Cruises: 6–18 months for best availability
  • All-inclusive resorts: 6–9 months
  • Peak travel periods: as early as possible

Last-minute trips are sometimes possible — just ask!
